The age of digitalization in UAE’s education
Digitalization is the inevitable reality that people have to embrace nowadays. It is positively affecting the educational sector worldwide. Parents are now using the means of digital tools to teach their children various topics. They enroll their children for online tutoring classes, follow YouTube music and language channels. Kids can play interactive mobile apps by means of which they get into the basics of coding and engineering. The digital resources of today are quite fascinating and expand the boundaries of unlimited education.
UAE is at the forefront of adapting the digital into its’ educational system. In 2012, under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Ministry of Education has launched the Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program. The initiative aims to create a solid and integrated e-learning platform that involves teachers, students as well as parents to enhance the learning experience. One of the distinctive benefits of using the programs is that teachers can focus more on the individual performance of each student and empower them to showcase their strengths and grow new skills. For 2015/2016 academic year 202 schools, 1,719 classrooms, 6703 teachers and 34,508 students have adopted the Smart Learning Program. By 2017, the Smart Learning Program will be installed in all K-12 government school classes. The program helps to automate various daily teaching activities, collects data, builds online lesson plans as well as serves as the social tool which allows live discussion and messaging among teachers, student and parents.
EduKid.ae is another UAE-based online initiative created by the parents for the parents in order to help them in the process of finding nurseries, schools and extracurricular activities for their children. Curriculum, areas, tuition fees and reviews are the filters that make the search on the portal more precise. EduKid encourages parents to share their valuable reviews about UAE institutions, based on their experiences. This online collaboration simplifies families’ decision making and serves as an excellent channel for local institutions to analyze the parents’ feedback and adopt the improvements on the quality of their programs and services. Digitalization opens up the new frontiers of the joint communication where every member of our community can be a contributor to the progress and innovation.
